Which app should I choose?
Choose BillHive to keep your data on your device and sync with iCloud. Choose SelfHive if you run a BillHive server and want your iPhone and web app connected to it.
Do I need a subscription?
The apps are designed without subscriptions or ads. See each App Store listing for current pricing and available in-app purchases. The self-hosted web app is open source.
Can friends join without the app?
You can share a check or trip link so friends can claim items or join through their browser, without creating an account. Sharing needs an internet connection.
How do payments work?
BillHive helps you work out the amount and opens supported payment apps, including Venmo, Zelle, and Cash App. Payments are completed through your payment provider; BillHive does not move money.
Where is my data stored?
BillHive stores your data on-device with iCloud sync. SelfHive connects to your own BillHive server. Receipt recognition happens on-device. Shared links make the details you choose to share available to their recipients.
How do I back up or move my data?
Use Import/Export in the app’s Settings to create a JSON backup. Keep a copy somewhere safe before moving devices or changing your server.
